Also known as: 10/22 Takedown, Ruger 10-22 Takedown

Overview

The Ruger 10/22 Takedown is a semi-automatic rimfire carbine chambered in .22 Long Rifle, introduced by Sturm, Ruger & Co. in 2012 as a portable, quick-disassembly version of the classic Ruger 10/22. Its defining feature is a patented takedown system that lets the shooter separate the 18.5-inch stainless steel barrel and fore-end from the receiver and buttstock with the push of a recessed lever, reducing the rifle to two compact sections roughly 20 inches long for stowage in the included ballistic nylon carry bag. The blowback-operated action feeds from Ruger's proven 10-round rotary magazine, and the rifle retains the enormous aftermarket compatibility of the 10/22 platform. A factory-mounted Picatinny rail and adjustable rear sight allow easy fitment of optics, while a barrel-tension adjustment preserves point of impact each time the carbine is reassembled. Lightweight at roughly 2126 grams, the Takedown is popular among backpackers, pilots, boaters, and survivalists who value a reliable, packable .22 for small game, plinking, and training. It combines the affordability and dependability that made the 10/22 America's best-selling rimfire rifle with genuine take-anywhere convenience.

Notes

The Takedown mechanism uses a spring-loaded locking lever and an adjustable barrel-mounting collar so the rifle returns to zero after repeated disassembly. Barrel and stock sections each measure about 20 inches when separated, fitting the supplied backpack-style case. Later configurations include threaded and fluted barrels, the lightweight Takedown Lite with an aluminum barrel sleeve, and models with 16.12-inch to 18.5-inch barrels.

Background

Introduced on March 28, 2012, the 10/22 Takedown answered decades of demand for a packable version of America's favorite rimfire. Its two-piece design and included carry bag made it a staple of bug-out kits, bush-plane survival packs, and hikers' gear, all while retaining the vast 10/22 aftermarket.
