Also known as: PM-63 9mm Parabellum prototype, wz. 1970

Overview

The PM-70 is a Polish prototype blowback machine pistol, a variant of the PM-63 RAK rechambered for the 9×19mm Parabellum cartridge. Developed at the Łucznik Arms Factory in Radom in 1970, it retained the PM-63's distinctive layout: an oversized reciprocating pistol-style slide acting as the bolt, a folding wire shoulder stock, a folding vertical foregrip, a spoon-shaped muzzle compensator, and a selectorless progressive trigger that fires semi-automatically on a partial pull and full-automatically when pulled fully through. Intended to offer the RAK design in the more widely used 9mm Parabellum chambering, the PM-70 never entered production owing to a lack of demand and remained an experimental model.

Notes

Derived from the PM-63 RAK; the 9×19mm Parabellum rechambering was the principal change. Physical dimensions are those of the parent PM-63 platform. Caliber-dependent figures such as muzzle velocity and cyclic rate for the 9mm variant are not reliably documented and are left unset. Never mass-produced.

Background

The PM-70 was an attempt to sell the RAK's one-handed, pocket-sized firepower to buyers standardized on 9×19mm Parabellum rather than the Warsaw Pact's 9×18mm Makarov. Despite inheriting the RAK's clever selectorless progressive trigger and wall-cockable spoon compensator, the Western-cartridge experiment found no takers and was quietly shelved.
