Desert Tech SRS A1

Desert Tech · Sniper Rifle · Discontinued · 2011

Also known as: SRS A1, Stealth Recon Scout A1, DT SRS A1, Desert Tactical Arms SRS

Overview

The Desert Tech SRS A1 (Stealth Recon Scout) is a compact bullpup bolt-action precision rifle that packs a full-length 26-inch barrel into an overall length of roughly 914mm. By placing the action behind the trigger group, the bullpup layout gives the SRS A1 the ballistic performance of a conventional rifle several hundred millimeters longer, making it well suited to snipers operating from vehicles, aircraft, and confined urban environments. The rifle is a multi-caliber platform: swapping the barrel, bolt, and magazine converts it between .308 Winchester, .300 Winchester Magnum, and .338 Lapua Magnum in about a minute while retaining zero.

Notes

The SRS A1 refined the original Desert Tactical Arms Stealth Recon Scout unveiled at the 2008 SHOT Show, adding the A1 designation and improved caliber-conversion kits. Desert Tech guaranteed 0.5 MOA accuracy with match ammunition. A .308 magazine held 6 rounds (with 10-round options), while magnum chamberings used 5-round magazines. The SRS A1 was superseded by the SRS A2 in 2018, which introduced a redesigned chassis and improved barrel lock-up. A short-barreled Covert version was also offered.

Background

The Stealth Recon Scout was among the first production bullpup bolt-action sniper rifles to gain real traction, demonstrating that a bullpup could match conventional accuracy while shedding a huge amount of overall length. Conceived by Desert Tactical Arms founder Nicholas Young, the SRS concept answered a demand from operators who needed full-power precision fire in a package short enough to maneuver inside vehicles and helicopters.
