Accuracy International AWM-F

Accuracy International · Sniper Rifle · In Service · 1998

Also known as: G22, Arctic Warfare Magnum Folding, AWM Folding Stock

Overview

The Accuracy International AWM-F is the folding-stock variant of the AWM (Arctic Warfare Magnum) bolt-action sniper rifle, chambered most commonly in .300 Winchester Magnum and also offered in .338 Lapua Magnum. Built on Accuracy International's aluminum chassis with a free-floating stainless steel barrel, quick-change barrel system and integral bipod, the AWM-F adds a left-side-folding stock that shortens the rifle for transport and airborne insertion without disturbing zero. Best known as the basis for the German Bundeswehr's G22, it was adopted by the German Army and Kommando Spezialkräfte in 1998 and delivers precise, long-range fire from a compact, magnum-caliber platform.

Notes

The German G22 is the AWM-F chambered in .300 Winchester Magnum with a 660mm barrel; it is typically issued with a Zeiss 3-12x56 telescopic sight and a suppressor. The AWM-F's folding stock is the defining difference from the fixed-stock AWM, reducing packed length to roughly one metre. The AWM family was phased out by Accuracy International in favour of the AX platform, though the G22 remains in German service.

Background

When the German Army sought a new magnum sniper rifle in the late 1990s it selected the folding-stock AWM-F over domestic offerings, fielding it as the G22 in .300 Winchester Magnum - a British-designed rifle that became one of the Bundeswehr's principal precision weapons.
